Hold Fast to Hope and to Your Seat Belt

Eleanor Duke   -

Every year, youth from a number of local churches gather for DNOW Weekend.  This year’s DNOW was a great time of looking at the hope we have in Christ!  We took a dive into Hebrews 10:19-25 to see how worldly things are temporary and fail us.  Thankfully, we can hold to Christ who can purify our hearts.  Thinking through how to stir one another on to love and good works was encouraging as well!

But that wasn’t all that happened.  “I’m doing a scavenger hunt and need an old person, can I take a selfie with you?”  This was one of the many questions asked during our Saturday free time activity: the scavenger hunt.  Redeeming Grace youth whipped around town, asking people to do specific tasks to help them collect points.  This brought out smiles and even some awkward looks from strangers.  From finding a taco to proposing to a coffee shop worker, lots of fun was had!

Kirsten Ashley, a 9th grader, shares about her experience below.

Where did you see Christ in others at DNOW?

“I saw Christ in others during worship.  I had a friend playing guitar the first night and it was amazing to see her not only doing the thing she loved but also glorifying God.  Also, us not on the stage singing was not only fun, but you could really feel God there.”

What did you learn this weekend?

“I had never really thought about before how people WANT you to say that you don’t believe in God.”

What story did you just have to share to your parents as soon as you could?

“The first thing I tell anyone when telling them about DNOW was that I got a piggyback ride from a stranger, and that he didn’t even bend down for me to jump up.  He was also like 6 foot, so I basically had to launch myself up there.  Truly the highlight of my life.”
