Update from Brazil
For the past three years I’ve had the privilege of serving on the board of directors for South America Mission (SAM). I recently had the opportunity to travel with the board to visit some of SAM’s work, missionaries, and impact. We visited SAM’s work three cities – João Pessoa and Recife on the Northeast Coast and a location near Cuiabá in the southwest part of the country. In the Northeast it was encouraging to see the priority of leadership development through SAM’s partnership with a seminary in João Pessoa and work to train leaders in Recife. Near the city of Cuiabá SAM has had a longstanding work called the AMI training center which includes a three-year training course to introduce indigenous peoples to the gospel and help them grow in their understanding of Scripture. There are 19 people groups represented in the current class that’s at AMI – many of which travel for over a week to arrive at the center. It was a joy to see how God is using this center to bring people to faith and see them take the gospel back to their people. God is doing a great work in Brazil – whether through the training of leaders in the urban centers and or impacting the indigenous from rural tribal communities. God’s heart for all tribes, nations, and tongues is clearly evident and I’m glad to have seen just a small picture of it in Brazil.
